Urban Regeneration: Restoring Structure & Urban Continuity
Reactivating Urban Fabric Through Connectivity and Public Realm
The Challenge Spanning 30 hectares, the Abkooh district stood in stark contrast to the developed surroundings of the Mashhad metropolis. The area suffered from physical deterioration, a lack of social infrastructure, and poor permeability. The absence of quality public spaces and pedestrian amenities had isolated the district, creating a conflict with the neighboring urban fabric.
The Strategy
Over four years of in-depth analysis and planning, a phased redevelopment framework was developed to preserve the district’s historical backbone while restructuring its housing patterns and public spaces.
The proposal introduces:
A reinforced central spine
Improved block segmentation and spatial hierarchy
New public plazas and green corridors
Enhanced pedestrian connectivity
Mixed-use integration to support daily life
The intervention respects existing landmarks while redefining the built fabric to meet contemporary urban standards.
