Beyond the Frame
Västra Götaland County, Sweden
This contemporary glass pavilion is designed as a sophisticated liminal space, bridging the gap between interior comfort and the raw beauty of the landscape. Built upon a minimalist steel framework, the structure utilizes clean, geometric lines to redefine the traditional gazebo. It functions not merely as an outdoor shelter but as a “glass sanctuary,” offering an unobstructed 360-degree connection to nature across all seasons.
Design Intent
Merging Aesthetics with Functionality
The project’s conceptual framework is rooted in four key architectural pillars:
Spatial Anchor: Establishing a social and spatial gravity point within the site to encourage gathering and interaction.
Visual Hierarchy: Creating a bold contrast between the rhythmic black steel profiles and the warm, organic textures of the timber decking.
Human-Scale Design: Balancing the increased density of the structure with intimate, human-scaled proportions that feel both airy and secure.
Biophilic Integration: Using the transparent envelope to ensure the interior experience is dictated by natural light and surrounding greenery.
Industrial Design & Materiality
Tectonic Precision in Steel Fabrication
From an industrial design perspective, the pavilion is a masterclass in tectonic honesty and material durability:
Structural Framework: Engineered with slim-profile steel sections that provide maximum structural load-bearing capacity with minimal visual interference.
Material Dialogue: A curated juxtaposition of “hard” industrial steel, “soft” organic wood, and “transparent” glass surfaces to achieve textural balance.
Fabrication Excellence: Every joint and connection is designed for seamless integration, reflecting a high level of craftsmanship in metalwork.
Environmental Resilience: Finished with high-performance, weather-resistant coatings designed to withstand fluctuating climates while maintaining a pristine matte aesthetic.
